Patching a Mobile Home Roof

This is a good how-to video on how to add additional insulation in a mobile home roof. This is a great way to save money on heating and cooling bills. You have to cut holes in the roof before installing the installation. This could be a problem if you don’t patch the holes correctly.

There are two different roof coating products being used in this video. The first is a liquid metal known a silver seal. You may have seen this type of product used to coat mobile home roofs. As you can see in the video you need to mix this product thoroughly before applying it.

The other roof coating being used in this video is Elastomeric Acrylic Cool Coating. This is the product that I recommend using rather than the silver seal. It’s much easier to work with and provides much better protection than the silver seal. With its white color, it also helps to keep your mobile home cool in the summer.

If you don’t feel up to the task of doing this yourself, be sure to check Angie’s List to find a local roofing contractor in your area.

Mobile Home Roofing, Roof Over Coatings

Many people are familiar with silver coat liquid metal roof coating for mobile home roof overs. This material is hard to work with, messy, and has a tendency to crack after a few changes of season. Today there is a much better product to use on your trailer roof that provides a long-lasting and money saving solution for that leaking mobile home roof.

Elastomeric acrylic coating is a very flexible product and does not crack like silver coatings. With its white color, you also benefit from its reflectivity that helps to save money during the summer months.

EPDM Repair Videos

I’ve had several requests for some tutorial videos on how to repair EPDM roofing. I found two YouTube videos on the subject, but would also refer you to the Mule-Hide EPDM complete installation videos. Pay special attention to the cleaning part of the videos, as this is most important for a proper repair. Also, temperature is a factor to consider when using repair products.

Don’t use tar to repair an EPDM roof! I have seen this multiple times in my years of performing flat roof repairs. The best thing to use for EPDM repairs is Eternabond ET0059 Eternabond Microsealant Tape. You MUST use a roller with EternaBound because it is pressure activated.

EternaBond EPDM Roof Repair

In my opinion, EternaBound is the best product on the market for making roof leak repairs. Not only will ET stick like crazy to EPDM, But also fuses to TPO, PVC, metal aluminum, iron, copper, concrete masonry, wood osb board, styrofoam, and almost anything you can imagine. I have used Eternabond ET0059 Eternabond Microsealant Tape for about two years on flat roof repairs here in Chicago. One thing a roof repair contractor hates is call-backs. EternaBond saves money by working right the first time.
